RE: Worn Out Shocks After 8000 Miles??

I replaced mine on my E-350 at 8,000. I was rocking and rolling all over the road. I replaced mine with Bilsteins myself. Made a big difference in handling. I was also able to push in the stock shocks that I took off the MH. They were junk.
Has anyone ever had to replace a Bilstein? I have 30,000 on them now and I know they come with a lifetime warranty. Don't they wear out?

RE: Booties to wear when dumping

Thanks Professor95, My suggestion for the booties isn't overkill in my book. I too have EMT training. It's just simple precautions using PPE.

RE: Booties to wear when dumping

I do mostly dry camping at National Parks. These CGs have a great many rentals coming and going. Some don't have a clue on dumping. I saw one up at Upper Pines in Yosemite attach his sewer hose and pull the handle. Evidently, no one showed him how to use the bayonet type and he dumped 20-30 gallons all over the area. In a panic, he put his hose back and took off. The Class A behind him was amazed. But without saying a word, he pulled out his hose and washed it down.
Having a small Class C, I have to get back in the cab after dumping with wet shoes. You guys with trailers and 5ers get to walk 30-45 feet up to your TV where it's dry and you can change your shoes before getting in and driving out. I would have no where to shoe extra shoes in the cab area of my "C". These booties would great for me.

RE: Booties to wear when dumping

I unfortunately don't have a lot of exterior storage space. What I have in storage is for the BBQ, wood and chairs in a hitch cargo bin.. I guess every MH will have its pros and cons depending of storage and location of your doors.
I ordered a set of 25 which should last me 2 years or more.
I should get a face shield too. Last time I put the wand down the toilet to flush the tank thru the Johnny Cock, the #### flew back in my face. I keep my head away now. Sure is a big learning curve to RVs.

RE: Booties to wear when dumping

I can put a trash bag in the compartment on the door for disposal of the soiled booties and gloves. I have EMT training and can remove the latex gloves and booties without getting the contaminents on my hands. Not a hard task to master, just stick you finger inside the glove or bootie, twist your finger and pull it off inside out. Then trash it. Yes, you can use Wal-Mart bags. But will you be able to take them off easily for disposal. Won't you have to use some tape to keep them on? Plus you can easily wear a hole in them walking around.
Anyway, it's just my idea to keep things clean. If you think you have a better idea, good use it. I don't have a problem with the cost of a pair of booties.

Booties to wear when dumping

I am finding less than clean dumping stations. Having to walk around the MH and thru wet areas of what ever, my DW has a fit when I come back in the MH. Lately, she has me spray my shoes with Lysol before getting in the MH. But then we have that smell in the cab as we travel. I once tried using Lysol spray on my shoes sitting on the rear door step. It set off the smoke detector or CO alarm.
So I did some investigating and found these disposable booties that aren't too expensive.
http://www.shoecovers.net/
So I am going to purchase some and see how they work out. It would be nice to be able to remove these waterproof booties and not have to worry what I am bringing in the MH. We walk around barefoot in the MH sometimes.

RE: Changing Out The Onan 4000 In A Winnie 29B

diceshooter60 can you give us more info? What exactly are the symptoms? Is the MH in storage, shop or home. If at home try moving the fan. If you need more help post it in "Tech".

RE: Changing Out The Onan 4000 In A Winnie 29B

I would get a second opinion. What was the flashing code? Mine locked up on startup and I called Onan. It was just the starter and flywheel out of wack. They had me turn the fan and free the lockup. It's a single cylinder and sometimes the piston can be in a difficult position to start it up because of the compression.
How old is you Onan? Did you exercise it regularly? If stored, do you put in Stabil in your gas?
There are a great many RVers out there that can give you some good advice. I'd wait and see what they have to say.

RE: Has Scanner freq for Yosemite changed?

Can't radioreference give us more info?
I'm hoping for a digital scanner for Xmas. RS has one for $350. Is that the 800 freq range?

DickA- so does that mean we can get the broadcasts if we buy a digital scanner?

RE: Tank Heaters

Yes, I had the same problem a few years ago. I called Ultra Heat and they said to use 3M adhesive spray in a can. I think it comes in a green can and was about $15. I cleaned the area per instructions on the can. Then I sprayed it on the area. I think I had to wait a few minutes. I then pushed the pad onto the tank and taped it. I then took a piece of wood and put it on my floor jack and jacked it up to apply a little pressure. I let it sit all day and then removed the jack and tape. Never had a problem since.

RE: Has Scanner freq for Yosemite changed?

I just finished entering 25 freq from Radioreference.com by hand. On company time. I also entered those new freqs in the 400's in the liimited search bank. I won't be up there until Jan or Feb.

RE: Has Scanner freq for Yosemite changed?

I can do a range limit search of 406.1125 to 415.10000 next time I go up there. Will that work?

can we get a list of the new freqs or is it top secret? My RS scanner has signal stalker, but I have to be close when they are transmitting.

RE: Has Scanner freq for Yosemite changed?

I spoke with a SAR volunteer who works Mammoth and the Sierras. He is looking into the law enforcement freq change for me. In the mean time, I am hoping someone out there in forum may come up with some good news for us. Seems there is a handful of us who enjoy using the scanner and are disappointed in the change.

RE: Has Scanner freq for Yosemite changed?

Bad news. Spoke with a few rangers today. Seems the law enforcement freqs have gone to encryption. They say you have to have a box to decipher transmissions. One ranger says they added repeaters, but I had those repeater freqs before. One ranger was upset that they don't get that anymore, and can walk into a situation.
So a digital scanner won't help.
The shuttle bus freq and the bear alert still work.
Also the Ahwahnee maintenance and housekeeping still work. "3659 please bring extra towels to room 122".

RE: Has Scanner freq for Yosemite changed?

I did hear on the scanner that there was a bear in Upper Pines West from the SAR. They sent out another Alert later that the bear was back in Upper Pines. We heard our neighbors yelling "Bear". We have seen at least 2 bears over the last 2 years in the last loop of UP. Just yell and they go away. This time of the year, they are fattening up for the winter and there aren't many occupied campsites to prowl thru.
As for the scanner, I know there are digital ones on the market that will pick up the newer signals. But they are out of my price range, like $600.

Has Scanner freq for Yosemite changed?

We have used our scanner on our last 3 trips up here and had no problem. Last trip was June 1, 2008. We are up here now and can't get any NPS ranger stuff at all. The concession stuff still works fine. We liked listening to the bear, traffic and SAR reports. Did they upgrade their system?
